NAME: Mr. Keithley Amory
Mr. Keithley Amory is the holder of a Master’s of Science Degree in Agriculture. In January 2000, he joined the Department of Agriculture and served in the capacity of Agricultural Officer and was required to assist the Director with administrative matters. In August 2001, he was appointed to the post of Deputy Director. He has been the Officer in Charge on numerous occasions and served well in that capacity. He was appointed to his current post of Director in 2008.
He is a well rounded technical and administrative professional who has over the years exhibited great leadership. He has championed the development of staff by promoting advanced education, training and leadership skills.
Over the years, he has focused on the development of vegetable production programs on all Government Estates. Major emphasis was placed on crops such as onions, tomatoes, and peppers geared towards improving import substitution. He was instrumental in obtaining a FAO Grant: “Containerized Vegetable Production at Two Primary Schools in Nevis”. The main objective of this project was to introduce agriculture to the students at an early age. He also encouraged fodder bank development on the animal stock farms at Indian Castle and Maddens with the view of improving animal production.
Further to that, he encouraged the adoption of new technologies such as Hydroponics, Aquaponics, mulching with plastic, cassava meal production, and modern irrigation practices by both farmers and Extension Staff. He has worked closely with the various Agricultural groups on the island including Nevis Livestock Farmers Association, the Nevis Growers Cooperation and the Nevis Agro-processors.
He has competently represented the Department on numerous local and federal committees. He has assisted greatly with the development of the Department of Agriculture’s 5 year Corporate Plan and the preparation of the Department’s Annual Budgets. His wealth of technical, administrative and interpersonal skills is beyond reproach.
